Getting into a collision can be an overwhelming experience, and definitely reminds us that driving cautiously is more important than anything else while operating a vehicle.
It’s important to note that most accidents are avoidable. The following are a few reasons why vehicle collisions occur and how to avoid them in the future.
Tired Drivers
Driving while tired is never recommended because you not only put yourself at risk, you put others at risk too. Your body instinctively wants to go to sleep while driving at night, which is why it’s a very dangerous time to be driving.
You will know your body is tired if your eyelids feel heavy, you start drifting lanes, or even hallucinate while driving.
If you feel tired or sleepy in any way while driving, your best option is to safely pull to the side of the road and take a nap. Or find a nearby hotel and get some well-needed sleep. This will allow your body to recharge before heading back on the road again. You have to be fully rested to keep everyone safe while on the road.
Distracted Drivers
The introduction of smartphones into our society has caused some drivers to be distracted while driving. These distractions include texting while driving and holding the phone while driving.
If you text while driving, your eyes are not focused on the road. If you are traveling at a high speed and you take your eyes off for a brief moment it would be as if you were blindfolded while driving.
The easiest way to avoid a collision is to stay off your smartphone while driving your vehicle. If you require the use of your smartphone, the safest option is to pull to the side of the road and use it or purchase a hands-free device. You need your undivided attention while driving your vehicle to avoid any potential collisions.
Impaired Drivers
Unfortunately, impaired driving continues to be one of the main causes of collisions in our society. With the increased penalties and restrictions, it still is not deterring some people to drive impaired.
The best way to avoid this would be not doing it and encourage others not to do it. There is no reason for impaired driving with the array of options to get you to your destination safely. This includes taxis and public transportation.
